Shaggy and Friends 2012 Charity Concert
Shaggy and Friends, the annual charity concert held by Grammy-winning Dancehall/Reggae artiste, Shaggy, took place on January 7 2012 as a result of the general elections in Jamaica.
On December 4, then Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced that general elections will commence on December 29, the day before Shaggy and Friends was originally scheduled (December 30). As a result, promoters of Shaggy and Friends moved the show’s date to January 7 on the lawns of Jamaica House in Kingston.
The change of date drastically affected the lineup card as internationally-renowned R&B singer, known as Ne-Yo was not able to perform at the event.
Former Fugees star and R&B legend, Lauryn Hill was the headliner for Shaggy and Friends along with British Reggae singer, Maxi Priest. The Charity Concert with performances from Denise Willaims, Tessane Chin, Beres Hammond, Stephen Marley, Junior Gong Marley, Eve, Cocoa Tea and others raised funds for the Bustamante Children’s hospital. Shaggy —— an artist giving back.
